Welcome Page
Welcome to the Official Website of University of the Philippines Association of Civil Engineering Students. Enjoy your stay. Feel free to browse our site.
The University of the Philippines Association of Civil Engineering Students (UP ACES) is the premier civil engineering organization of the University of the Philippines College of Engineering(UP CoE). For almost 50 years, the organization has ensured the formation of outstanding and well-rounded civil engineers, producing consistent topnotchers in the CE board exams as well as distinguished and respected alumni and faculty in the College of Engineering. As one of the oldest and recognized organizations in the college, UP ACES continues to promote academic excellence, versatility, and camaraderie among its members.
The UP ACES Alumni & Resident Members' Webpage was created to present the current events and up-to-date news about UP ACES, as well as to inform the members and applicants of important announcements. It is being handled by the resident members of the organization so that it may be easily updated, with the guidance of the faculty advisers and alumni.
Here you may find alumni contacts, get-togethers and other news about UP ACES members.
UP ACES Tree Planting Event
Greetings, fellow UP CE alumnae!
Next year, UP Civil Engineering will be 100 years old! This is undoubtedly a very rare and special occasion, a once-in-a-lifetime event, so to speak.
Since middle of 2009, planning and preparations have been underway, all of which will culminate in a grand celebration in 2010. We invite you to join the activities, see “old” friends, meet new ones, contribute talent, connections and resources and together, let's make UP CE's 100 years memorable, relevant and fitting for the historical centennial milestone we commemorate.
So, to begin our fund-raising efforts … mark your calendars and block off OCTOBER 24, 2009 as a MUST-BE-AT-UP-day. Join us for the tree-planting activity dubbed “Green Foundations: Treeplanting for Rebuilding a Healthy Happy Earth”, 6 am to11 am, University Avenue (near the entrance of UP Diliman). See attached letters and forms for details and contact persons.
Our target is to plant at least 500 trees. Each tree-seedling costs P1000. You can participate through:
(1) Being a tree(s)-sponsor and planting YOUR trees yourself. (preferred!!!!) (2) Being a tree-sponsor but delegating us to plant YOUR trees for you. (3) Looking for other sponsors among your friends, relatives, business partners, etc. (4) All of the above. (more than preferred!!!)
See you there! Bring friends! Bring your family!
P.S. Please pass on the message to other alumni, thanks!
CE Summit ended weeks ago with another successful series of events that put UP ACES ahead in the list of best student organizations that promote civil engineering as a field and a profession. Though the summit became a yearly tradition of UP ACES, rigorous efforts had been made by the organization to make the week-long celebration of its 54th anniversary a reality.
CE Summit is the most tedious part of being an ACES member. The activities will call for inactive members to become active. It will require passive residents to work and be involved. Aside from the prestige that it brings to being an ACES, the experience is an offer of growth to our capabilities to follow and lead. The occasion also gives members the opportunity to meet and work with members whom they don’t see in the tambayan often. It builds bonds. For younger members, they should see this as a chance to be knowledgeable of how the summit works for they will lead this organization in the future. Applicants need to be involved not only because it will tell more about themselves but because by getting involved, they will grow on loving ACES more and learn by participation the kind of organization they are entering.
The summit heads and execom leaders started planning as early as summer vacation to know the basics on how the entire occasion will run together with the incorporation of new activities in the summit. Sponsors and guests are carefully considered to fit in the theme. Marketing of the fincom has also started alongside with the assignment of questions by the academics committee. These activities are basically initiated by the respective committee and summit heads.
The involvement of the whole organization was started being called during the mid-part of August when the checklist of things needed to be done has to be accelerated as the summit drew near. The first calls for help were quite “disregarded” by members because pressure was not felt by being a simple committee member. Many were not aware of the loads of work that need to be accomplished. Oftentimes, the same people were present during work time. We failed to understand that these same people also have their obligations and priorities like us and we share the same responsibilities in the CE Summit preparation. We also carry the name of UP ACES.
Being involved in the summit means a semi-professional engagement - semi because we are not penalized for not being involved or paid for helping. However, the event told more. It turned out that members are semi-professional – some were professionals, others were not. Professionalism includes list of traits that can be attributed with involvement. It involves different aspects from dressing up well as occasions call for it to professionalism in doing our jobs as members and professionalism in leading, giving command, and tactfully dealing with members for heads However, cramming is not included in the list.
Cramming was seen in the latter part of preparation for summit. Members began appearing when pressure was felt for the events and after pleas of text messages were received. Perceiving it positively, it was good that the call was responded and the works were still accomplished. However, it would have been better if the response was given at the beginning of requests for help. The burden would have been shared equally.
The issue of involvement will not end as the summit concluded. More activities will come the way of UP ACES where calls will again be made. It is only rightful respond with professionalism.

A seminar and workshop on marketing and effective fund-raising was held last Friday, April 4, 2008 in Room 104 of Melchor Hall. The seminar tackled the important steps involved in planning for a fund raising event, ways of motivating people, and tips on making an effective solicitation letter, among others. It was facilitated by Reigna Jewel Maccababbad 03A and Sandy Mae Gaspay 03B.
A discussion on the problems encountered during the previous ACES fund raising events also transpired and insights on how to improve them were likewise shared. The graduating students who attended also gave pieces of advice and reminders for the younger batches on handling ACES events and college life.
For the finale, a mini-workshop was held where groups were made to plan for a movie-screening. Creative ideas, especially from the new members, were unleashed and heated debates on proper strategies and identifying one's market made the activity fun and exciting! Who would ever think that these young people know so much about "loose markets" and proper timing?
All-in-all, the event was a success and hopefully the PFcom and Fincom members (plus others) were inspired to be more creative, innovative, and passionate in the upcoming ACES activities. Cheers to a bigger and better ACES!

ACES members, let us all congratulate our National CE Quiz 2008 head Christian Jesus Wilter "CJ" Serafines for making it as one of the five on-the-job trainees in Procter and Gamble. Although P&G is not a CE company, it takes pride in its capacity to make good leaders and it accepts most of the best graduates of the country.
For sure, CJ will learn many things which will he will share with the organization. May he serve as an inspiration to all of us to strive to step out of our boundaries and accept new challenges. Ang galing na ng ACES! =)
Congratulations again CJ!

ppp 22 Jul : 12:39 BTW, i want to suggest to shorten the middle frame of our page. it is too wide. we have to scroll left and right just to view the page.
