“PUMP-UP! Seminar Series 2011: CONSTRUCTING A BETTER YOU”

is created to reach one of the several goals of the organization — to develop the holistic and professional growth of its members, as well as, other civil engineering undergraduates. This event aims to develop special areas that will definitely enhance the well-roundedness of all its participants and to train them to become professionals and competitive future civil engineers.

DAY 1: July 4, 2011
MAXIMIZING YOUR POTENTIAL – Effective Study Habits & Board Exam Techniques

This is all about efficient study habits of civil engineering students to survive the CE life in the university. It aims to help the students become more competent and well-organized. It will improve retention of the lectures and provide new methods and skills that will help them to understand the subject better. Also, we will discuss about different CE Board Exam techniques. These techniques will surely aid the graduating students to top the board exams.

 

DAY 2: July 5, 2011
POWER SPEAKING – When to Speak. What to Say. Whom to Tell.

In civil engineering, communication is a much needed skill; that is rarely honed. This can be hazardous due to the nature of the work that we do. While UP Students, are encouraged to take up classes such as Comm3, sometimes it is not enough. To aid this up, we present this seminar that aims to help CE undergrads to understand the dynamics of communication, as well as build a solid foundation for participants to become an effective speaker, listener and leader.

 

DAY 3: July 6, 2011
JOB HUNT – Gear Up Students for a Tougher Challenge after Graduation

Learn how to write an impressive curriculum vitae and resume and know effective ways to ace job interviews. A comprehensive tutorial will be given by notable speakers that can be used to successfully get your dream job.

 

DAY 4: July 7, 2011
LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE – Driven to Serve. Driven to Lead.

Leaders are made, not born. Effective leadership is one key in the success of a group. Being a leader doesn’t make you one, because leaders don’t automatically get the respect of group members. In order to earn leadership and have the positive influence of members, leaders must have an excellent skills and abilities and learn some methods. This seminar will surely equip and train participants of what effective leadership is.

 

DAY 5: July 8, 2011
PROJECT MANAGEMENT – How to Make Great Things Possible?

In the civil engineering world, one of the main concern that engineers handle is efficient project management. This deals with thorough understanding of design and processes and using this knowledge to set methodologies and techniques to achieve the objectives of the given project within a given time frame. In this seminar, the students will learn first-hand from civil engineers having a broad experience in this area. The main goal of this seminar is to continuously open the minds of CE students on what is out there and what they would expect as future civil engineers.
