In celebration of the Engineering Week, the UP Association of Civil Engineering Students hosted two of the biggest night events—INDAKAN 2010, the most prestigious dance competition in the College of Engineering and JAMMENG’G 2010, the much awaited band competition in the college. Indakan 2010, with the theme “MONTAGE – A Silver Screen Spectacle”, was a pair and a group dance showdown open to all engineering students and organizations. Last year’s theme aspired to bring silver screen musicals to life on the dance floor. It is where participants exhibited their interpretations to the music of the musicale-themed movies. Jammeng’g 2010, with the theme “Rock Meters Unleashed”, is a battle of the bands open to all professional and amateur bands in the College of Engineering. Its goal was for the participants to showcase their talents through performing their renditions to songs featured in the game “Guitar Hero”. These major events showcase the well-roundedness of the students in the college and are the solid proof that the students of the College of Engineering are not only gifted in engineering, mathematics and sciences but also in the performing arts. Indakan and Jammeng’g served as avenues where Engineering students can break free from the stereotype. These events also promoted camaraderie and fun amongst the students and the faculty of the college through a healthy competition. Being two of the most awaited, prepared for, and attended events in the Engineering Week, these also provided quality entertainment to the students of the whole UNIVERSITY.
Indakan 2010 and Jammeng’g 2010 provided a venue for over 400 students of the College of Engineering to develop their talents and skills in the performing arts. They encouraged students to take the risk of stepping out of their comfort zones to improve themselves, as a performer and as a person. These events also provided a training ground for all the members of UP ACES to improve their interpersonal skills and work ethics necessary to perform their individual task for the success of these events. They served as a venue to discover and train leaders. These Engineering Week night events strengthened the bond among different engineering organizations and unaffiliated students to work hand-in-hand in order to pursue one goal—to make the Engineering Week a success.
